The story of Contrait is the story of people. People who with different photographic approach, position of their body and with written words warn others about irregularities that are happening around them. Every Contrait is unique story and every story is unique Contrait.
I came on the idea of Contrait when I was observing human gesticulation and mime. I noticed same patterns of human behavior when it came to unpleasant situations or informations. Closing in, turning bodies and faces in different directions, lowering chin, etc. But I found out that the most symbolic way of showing disagreement and intolerance is by showing your back. That symbolic gesture is known all over the world. Contrait portraiture is portrait of person in their back. The idea is to get a lot of people from different backgrounds that would tell their fears and share their stories with their backs turned towards us. Weather it is politics, personal battles, space program or their crazy neighbors … different person, different problems. With this photo project I would like to give a chance to every individual to turn their back and tell what is on their mind. I would like to invite people from different background … music, sport, workers, family, etc. We all have problems and everyone disagrees with something and I’d like them to tell that through my photo project.
I don’t want this project to have a negative overtone but I do hope that people would identify with each other. I would like Contrait to become a global guideline of disagreement.
